| We are back from Italy! 
Hubby had a business trip, so I joined him after he was done working for some fun...this was my first time going to Europe, so it was quite the adventure! After an 11+ hour plane ride w/ little sleep to meet hubby in Roma, we were off and running to see, eat & walk all we could in 11 days! I have about 1500 pix to sort through (who knows how many hubby has!), so they will be posted on FB as I get through them..in the meantime, here's all that we did, for those of you who are looking to go...(I made a list everyday, so we'd know what we took pix of, cuz after awhile, it all kinda blurs together... ) I'll * our favorites/recommendations...ready? Day 2-Rome Capitol Hill Vittorio Emanuele II Monument *St. Peter's Square/Basilica--climbed the Duomo *Vatican Museum Castel San Angelo *Piazza del Popolo Santa Maria del Popolo *Via Del Corso *Spanish Steps Dinner: -Pizza & Kebab -La Gallina Bianca: Margherita Pizza (we only went back here again 'cuz it was close, & I was tired) Day 3-Rome *Colosseum Palatine Hill Roman Forum *Pantheon Cremeria Monteforte -Pistacchio Gelato Vittorio Emanuele II Monument *Colosseum @ nite *Est! Est! Est! -Prosciutto Pizza -Veggie Pizza (<--NOT recommended...i was just craving veggies)
Day 4-Rome National Museum of Rome Piazza della Repubblica Santa Maria Delgi Angeli *Trevi Fountain *San Crispino Gelato (our vote for BEST gelato! ) -Pistacchio & Hazelnut -Coffee & Pistacchio *Spanish Steps *area above the Spanish steps for night view of St. Peter's/Vatican *McDonald's by the Spanish Steps (fanciest McD's we've ever seen) *Via Del Corso-window shopping *Trevi Fountain @ nite
Day 5-Rome (we joined a tour for this part of the trip, so some stuff is repeated) *St. Peter's Square Blue Ice Gelato -Hazelnut/Mint Chocolate -Strawberry/Pineapple (good if you're looking for a good sorbet...didn't taste much like gelato) *Piazza del Popolo overlook *Colosseum Roman Forum *Paul/Peter's jail cell Santa Maria en Cosmedin *La Boca Della Verita (if you're an Audrey Hepburn "Roman Holiday" fan) Hercules Temple *Pantheon *Piazza Navonaa *Baffetto--gets our vote for best pizza! -Baffetto Pizza -Funghi Pizza
Day 6-Rome to Siena *Orvieto Siena---it was pouring rain the whole time, so we didn't get to see much...
Day 7-Siena to Florence *San Gimignano *Gelateria de Piazza: awarded "World's Best Gelato" -Pistacchio/Hazelnut -Caramel/Pistacchio *Greve/Castello Vicchiomaggio wine-tasting Florence *Piazzale Michelangelo--outdoor replica of "the David" *Ponte Vecchio *Dinner @ Tira Baralla -Mozzarella/Prosciutto -House Pizza -Prosciutto Foccace -Granitas
Day 8-Florence *Santa Croce Square Peruzzi Leather Factory *Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore: a.k.a. "the Duomo" *Piazza della Signoria *Uffizzi Gallery (we didn't have time to go inside, but it's recommended) *Ponte Vecchio *climbed "the Duomo"--panoramic view of Florence Gelateria Carroze -Hazelnut/Coffee Chocolate Chip -Coffee Chocolate Chip/Tiramisu *Piazzale Michelangelo
Day 9-Pisa/Venice *Leaning Tower of Pisa *Il Cangaru -Primavera Sandwich Venice *St. Mark's Square
Day 10-Venice *St Marks' Square/Basilica Murano Glass Factory *Rialto Bridge Lunch @ Trattoria Pizzeria A La Bricola -Spaghetti alla Vongole -Calamari Fritto -Polenta *Lagoon cruise to Burano Island
Day 11-Assisi to Rome St. Francis of Assisi Basilica Rome *Dinner @ Monte Carlo -Montecarlo Pizza -Funghi Pizza Pantheon Trevi Fountain *San Crispino Gelato -Pistacchio/Hazelnut
Day 12-Rome Pantheon Piazza Navona *Dinner @ Baffetto -Baffetto Pizza -Quattro Formaggio Pizza Trevi Fountain --- Are you tired yet? We did most of this on foot...total steps walked according to my pedometer= 229, 159 = ~50 miles!! Pretty good for someone w/ an old person's disease, huh? Fortunately, I had the best travel partner in the world to enjoy the trip with So, if you're lookin' to go, invest in some good walking shoes, work up a good appetite, and enjoy! Ciao! |
